Located in the commune of Lessay, the Tourbière de Mathon national nature reserve, despite its modest surface area of 16 hectares, nevertheless shelters a remarkable natural heritage composed of numerous habitats of European interest: dry to peaty moors, acidic peat bog to sphagnum moss, low alkaline marsh, alder grove – wet willow grove, oak grove, wet orchid meadows… a true botanical jewel, this site is home to more than 300 species of higher plants… On the fauna side, there are more than 1200 species of invertebrates, a thirty species of nesting birds…
