Mont Castre

A range of mountains rises to the west of the Cotentin and Bessin Marshes Regional Natural Park. Among these, Mont Castre constitutes a very rich landscape and historical site.

In this old stone quarry, vestiges of the Neolithic, Gallo-Roman and medieval times are still visible. Discover them by walking the discovery trail punctuated with interpretation panels.

From its height of 130 m, Mont Castre offers a breathtaking view of the body of water it shelters and of the Cotentin. An orientation table is installed at the top of the mountain.

Due to this strategic location, the mountain was almost impregnable by the Americans during the Battle of the Hedges in 1944.

In season, a refreshment bar and pedal boats are installed around the pond.
Practical information: Parking, picnic area, playground, public toilets.
