Airborne Museum

Airborne Museum, Freedom from the sky!
A few kilometers from Utah Beach, the Airborne Museum of Sainte-Mère-Eglise is located on the square of the church on which the parachutist John Steele was left hanging on June 6, 1944.

Through its 4 buildings with modern, interactive and spectacular scenography, the museum guides you in the footsteps of the American paratroopers of D-Day.
At the Airborne Museum, you board a real Waco glider, unique in France in this reconstructed state, or even a C-47 plane like the paratroopers of the 82nd and 101st airborne divisions were able to do for the Battle of Normandy.
The museum's objects come to life thanks to hyper-realistic reconstruction scenes. Also, you will have the sensation of jumping from a C-47 plane in mid-flight to land in the heart of the village of Sainte-Mère-Eglise, or of fighting in the flooded marshes during the Battle of La Fière or of getting lost in the Norman bocage during the Battle of the Hedges…

The museum film “The Paths of Liberty” projected in the large cinema room explains with emotion the destinies of the men who came to Utah Beach, Omaha Beach, Gold Beach, Juno Beach and Sword Beach as well as the highlights of the air landings. and maritime.

And to accompany you throughout your visit, the HistoPad tablet will take you back in time. Thanks to its hyper-realistic 3D graphics, planes and museum objects come to life! Experience the jumps of the paratroopers who landed on the church square, witness decisive battles that have marked history and many other surprises... Immersion is guaranteed!

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Landing, and for the 60th anniversary of the museum, the fruits of the latest extension-renovation project of the museum will be accessible from May 8, 2024:
1) Opening of a 5th building of 1200m² entirely dedicated to gliders, which will become the new WACO building.
2) Renovation of the current WACO building, which will henceforth be dedicated to the Occupation and the Resistance in the Sainte-Mère-Eglise sector.
3) Total redevelopment of the museum park: increased vegetation, installation of new vehicles, opening of a snack area.
