Spring in the Marais
Au spring, with the return of good weather, the rivers return to their beds. It is then time for the cows and horses to return to the meadows. We call this “putting in the swamp”. Several hiking trails are available to you to enjoy the awakening of nature, on foot or by bike.
Summer at the Marais
Summer is the beautiful season to discover, as a family, the fauna and flora of the peat bogs: carnivorous plants, frogs, dragonflies. The natural reserves of the Bloodsucker and Mathon peat bog can be discovered with a guide in all seasons, find the program in theagenda ! Be attentive during your walk, you may see a stork. In recent years, certain couples have taken up residence in the heart of Cotentin and Bessin Marshes Park.
Autumn in the Marshes
Autumn, it's the time of flavors and warm colors and the opportunity to discover the earthen houses typical of the hamlets of the marsh. And still enjoy beautiful walks before the marshes become covered with water. There Swamp House is an old farm dating from the 18th century. Located in Marchésieux, its exteriors are freely accessible and activities are organized there throughout the year: discovery of earthen architecture, medieval festival, pumpkin festival.
Winter in the heart of the Marais
En winter, the marshes become covered with water. We then say that they “whiten” and the expression Cotentin peninsula takes on its full meaning at that moment. If you want to observe the white marshes, climb to the top of the dungeon of Plessis-Lastelle and enjoy a 180° view of the Gorges marshes and the Baupte peat bog. Notice to lovers of beautiful photos, the road from Varde to Marchésieux is regularly isolated in the middle of water. With a beautiful sunset, you will be able to take beautiful photos where the trees are reflected on the flooded fields.
