What is the tourist tax?
This tax was put in place to help finance local tourism development. It thus makes it possible to finance actions carried out by the tourist office in terms of reception and information, promotion, marketing, animation, development, planning and support for tourism professionals.
How is the tourist tax collected?
It is the accommodation provider (hotel, guest house, campsite, seasonal rental, etc.) who is responsible for collecting the tourist tax from travelers. This tax is then paid to the competent local authority (municipality, intercommunity, department, etc.).
The tourist tax may be included in the total price of accommodation paid by the traveler. In this case, the amount of the tax is often specified in the invoice or the reservation contract specifically when booking via digital operators such as airbnb, booking, shelter, etc.
